River Tour

At Seahorse Hotel and Spa, we’re dedicated to giving you the best and most unique experiences during your time in Negombo. Our latest offering, the river tour, is an adventurous boat ride packed with authentic Sri Lankan food, bird watching, fishing, and socializing with locals, culminating in a climactic party. Our skilled guides ensure you have a truly unique riverboat experience.

Maha Oya

Imagine a beautiful, sunny day as you arrive at the Maha Oya in Kochchikade around 3 o’clock.

The Maha Oya, a significant river in Sri Lanka’s Sabaragamuwa Province, stretches about 134 kilometers (83 miles). Flowing through four provinces and five districts, it supports 14 water supply systems, serving over one million people living along its banks. The river originates in Nawalapitiya, Aranayake, and eventually reaches its mouth at Kochchikade, near Negombo.

As you arrive at Maha Oya, you’ll walk down the staircase and board the boat. Excitement fills the air as you prepare for the new experience awaiting you.

Kochchikade Railway Bridge

Just seconds into the journey, you’ll come upon the Kochchikade railway bridge. This steel truss bridge features a modern design with a pedestrian walkway on one side and a concrete embankment on the other. It’s a well-maintained and functional piece of infrastructure. After passing under the bridge, you’ll slowly approach a spot locals call Moya.

Moya

A Moya is where the ocean saltwater mixes with freshwater from rivers and streams. This transitional area between marine and river ecosystems is rich in biodiversity and provides a habitat for various animal and plant species.

The stunning landscape of the river meeting the sea is a sight to behold. Your face will light up with awe as we serve you an authentic Sri Lankan dish called ‘Maññokka with Pol Sambola,’ beautifully wrapped in a lotus leaf.

Gin Oya

Next, we navigate through another river called Gin Oya, continuing our boat trip to explore more places. Then we will soon reach our second Moya. However, we’ll keep exploring for now.

Nainamadama bridge and Lunu Bamma Dam

Arriving at the Nainamadama Bridge and then the Lunu Bamma Dam, you’ll see a variety of bird species. Enthusiastically, you can begin capturing every moment, photographing the diverse birds with your cameras.

Promised land – A Riverside gathering by the nature

Finally, you’ll reach our destination – a beautiful spot by the river, surrounded by tall palm trees and lush greenery. The calm water and overcast sky create a serene setting, perfect for enjoying good company and relaxing outdoors. As the sun begins to set, we light the bonfire, marking the start of an exciting evening for you!

Enjoy welcome cocktails and wander around, appreciating the natural beauty of the area.

Calypso music

What’s a gathering without music? A talented calypso band sets the mood with enchanting melodies. As the band plays, the music becomes more vibrant, and you join in, singing along and adding to the lively atmosphere.

Authentic Sri lankan cuisine

Indulge in an action buffet featuring a variety of BBQ options—chicken, pork, beef, sausage, and more! Our crew, dressed in traditional Sri Lankan outfits, serves the food on traditional plates known locally as ‘Mati Pingan,’ adding an authentic touch to the evening. Enjoy Sri Lankan-style hoppers, various curries, and a local favorite: kottu!

We offer a selection of drinks, including beer, cocktails, spirits, and liquor. The highlight is ‘Pol Rá’ (Toddy), a popular Sri Lankan drink known for its sweet, milky flavor. Our team explains the process of making Rá and its cultural significance. We also have a small bar on-site where we create custom drinks to suit your preferences.

Catch Of The Day

You can also join in as our crew starts fishing. Whether you’re an experienced fisherman or learning for the first time, you’ll have the chance to learn from the experts, enjoy the thrill of fishing, and later savor the freshly caught fish prepared on the spot.

As night falls, you can enjoy a soothing cup of tea or coffee. The scene of sipping a hot drink under the moonlight while stargazing is truly magical.

Around 9 o’clock, we start heading back, retracing our route and fulfilling our promise of delivering a memorable cultural experience.

Don’t miss the chance to be part of this unforgettable adventure. Book your spot on our Gin Oya River Tour and immerse yourself in the natural beauty and cultural richness of Sri Lanka. We also offer fire limbo shows and other cultural performances upon request. Our team is dedicated to making your experience extraordinary.
